Questions
What are the basic navigation lights under the COLREGS?
A white masthead light showing from right ahead to 22.5 degrees abaft the beam on each side (225 degrees in all), sidelights (green to starboard, red to port, 112.5 degrees each), and a white sternlight over the remaining 135 degrees astern. Rules 20 to 31 set out which combination, plus any all-round lights, each kind of vessel shows.
How do I remember fishing lights?
A vessel trawling shows all-round green over white; any other vessel engaged in fishing shows all-round red over white. Both add sidelights and a sternlight when making way through the water.
