What shape and lights does a vessel at anchor show?
By day, one black ball forward. At night, an all-round white light forward and a lower one aft (Rule 30).
The two anchor lights are both all-round white. The forward one is higher than the one at or near the stern. A vessel under 50 m may show a single all-round white light where it can best be seen instead.
- 100 m or more: she must also light up her decks with working lights.
- Under 7 m and anchored away from channels, fairways, anchorages and where other vessels normally navigate: no light or ball needed.
- In fog: rapid ringing of the bell for about 5 seconds at least every minute (plus a gong aft if 100 m or more). She may also sound short, prolonged, short to warn an approaching vessel (Rule 35(g)).
