Terms of Service

Last updated 17 September 2026

These terms govern your use of DeckPrep (the "Service"), an independent revision tool for the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore syllabus. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these terms.

1. Not affiliated with the RYA

DeckPrep is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). Content is written and cross-checked against publicly available regulations and standard seamanship references, but the RYA's own syllabus and examiners are the sole authority on what is required to pass the Yachtmaster Offshore exam.

2. No guarantee of exam success

DeckPrep is a revision aid, not a substitute for proper training, sea time, or official RYA course materials. Completing questions or lessons on DeckPrep does not guarantee you will pass any exam. Always cross-check safety-critical information against current official publications (e.g. COLREGS, Admiralty publications, RYA course notes) before relying on it in a real situation.

3. Accounts and guest use

You may use DeckPrep without an account ("guest mode"); in that case your progress is stored only in your browser's local storage and is not backed up — clearing your browser data or switching devices will lose it. Creating an account lets your progress sync across devices. You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity under your account.

4. Acceptable use

Don't attempt to scrape, redistribute, or resell DeckPrep's question bank or lesson content, interfere with the Service's operation, or use it for any unlawful purpose. Regulatory text quoted or referenced within the content (such as COLREGS rule text) remains public material and isn't owned by DeckPrep — the surrounding questions, explanations, and lessons are.

5. Pricing

DeckPrep is currently free to use. We may introduce paid plans in the future; if we do, we'll give notice before any change affects your existing use of the Service.

6. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, DeckPrep is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service, including reliance on its content in an actual navigation or safety situation.

7. Ending your use

You may stop using DeckPrep, or delete your account entirely, at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who misuses the Service.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
